Overview

Bowhead is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to support the fleet maintenance, operations and vessel support services at Kings Bay, Georgia. This team is responsible for maintaining Government furnished equipment and various watercraft associated equipment. 

Responsibilities

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic reports directly to the Senior Maintenance Engineer.

 

Duties include but are not limited to:

 

  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing marine diesel engines and performing routine preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Maintaining and repair various equipment and watercraft per task order specifications.
  • Be able to troubleshoot, repair, install/replace mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic accessories on marine vessels.
  • Handle multiple work orders, prioritizing as appropriate.
  • Must be able to lift, carry and stage objects weighing up to 50lbs.
  • Possess strong attention to quality work and detail.
  • Effective written, oral, and presentation skills.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Ability to communicate effectively with seniors, associates, technical assistance vendors, and customer.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with ability to work alone or as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with U.S. Navy Organizations, functional missions, and environment.
  • 2-3 Years’ experience related to Marine Equipment repairs.
  • Experience with Shipboard-installed Equipment - Marine Diesel Engines, Generators, Transmissions (10SV2000M92 MTU Diesel Engines, QSB5.9 Cummins Diesel Engines, HM521 and MJ-292 Hamilton Jet Marine Propulsion Units).
  • Experience with ship/fleet sustainment support services
  • Experience with complex Navy drawings / vessel specifications highly desired.
  • Minimum of one (1) year boat engineer experience in a waterborne environment being highly desired.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Secret level.  US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
