This dynamic company supports the other UIC Subsidiaries as well as maintains its own project work.  This position is expected to interface heavily with our clients and develop new opportunities.  The Associate Scientist is expected to provide project management as well as project support for other staff.  Our projects range from the oil and gas sector to infrastructure development to planning.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain spill response plans and procedures.
  • Coordinate and lead emergency response efforts for hazardous material spills.
  • Conduct regular training sessions and drills for staff on spill response protocols.
  • Assess spill incidents and determine appropriate response actions.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies, emergency responders, and contractors during spill incidents.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Prepare and submit reports related to spill incidents and response activities.
  • Conduct risk assessments and recommend preventive measures to mitigate spill risks.
  • Maintain inventory and readiness of spill response equipment and materials.
  • Participate in environmental audits and inspections.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
  • Certification in hazardous materials management or emergency response (e.g., HAZWOPER, CHMM) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in spill response, environmental health and safety, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and industry standards related to hazardous materials and spill response.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing emergency response plans.

  • Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and environmental management software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs

All employees must pass Non-DOT pre-employment drug screening and follow all UIC Non-DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program guidelines and requirements.

If working on a DOT project, employees must pass a DOT pre-employment drug screening and follow all DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program requirements.
