Overview

The Facilities Manager is expected to manage operation and maintenance of the lodging facilities in Utqiaġvik and Atqasuk. Ensures facilities are in good working order, oversees and manages facility’s utilities and services (e.g., internet, television, snow removal, water & sewer, etc.), performs or delegates minor repairs and upkeep and contracts out or works with UIC Real Estate for major repairs, monitors facility use and engages with tenants to address tenant needs. Supervises housekeeping staff, Administrative Assistant, and a Facilities Maintenance Technician. Interacting with accounting staff is necessary for coding, billing, and invoicing. Prepares weekly reports for the National Science Foundation and assists with guest arrival and departures. Requires occasional work on weekends and/or after 5:00 pm during peak season. Other duties as needed.

Essential Functions

 

  • Utilizing Checkfont software for reservations and billings
  • Organizing room rentals to effectively manage groups staying together
  • Working with maintenance and cleaning staff to ensure that the facilities are maintained and are kept clean and functioning
  • Responding to tenant comments or concerns regarding lodging facilities
  • Checking tenants in and out of rooms, and making sure all amenities (i.e., TVs + remote controls, linens, desks, chairs, etc.) are present and functional prior to arrival and after departure.
  • Logistical support for visiting groups
  • Coordinating and assisting with UIC Science operations staff

Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:

  • Billing and invoicing experience
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts. To receive and respond to instructions/assignments, must be able to read, write and speak English. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

Responsibilities

Required Experience:

  • High School diploma required/bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 5-years’ experience Arctic facilities management

 

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
  • Occasional field work and deployment to remote locations may be required

Qualifications

Authorized Driver Requirement:  Employee must have a valid driver’s license and three (3) year clean driving record. Employee must follow all Authorized Driver Policy and Procedures regarding approved vehicle usage.

All employees must pass non-DOT pre-employment drug screening and follow all UIC Non-DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program guidelines and requirements.

 

If working on a DOT project, employees must pass a DOT pre-employment drug screening and follow all DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program requirements.
