Overview

Summary

As an Instrument Person, works on a tow to three-person team to assist collecting field data used for creating maps, plans, and construction documents. The position will work year-round in the field often using GPS, traditional, and level survey equipment.

Essential Functions

  • Field Equipment Operation:
    • Set up, calibrate, and maintain survey equipment in the field.
    • Ensure all instruments are functioning properly and adjust as needed for accurate readings.
    • Use GPS systems to position survey markers and benchmarks at designated locations.
  • Support for Party Chief:
    • Help establish and mark reference points on the ground and assist in staking out construction or development sites.
    • Work alongside the Party Chief to verify and check measurements and other critical data.
    • Conduct field reconnaissance to identify survey landmarks and control points.

Read and interpret maps, construction plans and documents

Responsibilities

Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:

  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with variety GPS, traditional, and leveling surveying equipment
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to perform accurate measurements and calculations.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigate rough or uneven terrain.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve issues in the field to ensure accurate data collection.

Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with the survey team and report findings.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Education: Associate's degree in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering technology, or a related field.

Or: 3 years of related experience

 

Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs

All employees must pass Non-DOT pre-employment drug screening and follow all UIC Non-DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program guidelines and requirements.

If working on a DOT project, employees must pass a DOT pre-employment drug screening and follow all DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program requirements.
