Overview

MECHANICAL ENGINEER - TEST AND EVALUATION (AT):

 

The Mechanical Engineer - Test and Evaluation position is responsible for supporting manufacturing projects. This position combines hands-on technical work and maintenance of equipment and supplies. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, familiarity with engineering drawings and quality assurance techniques, organizational skills, in depth experience with precision machining operations, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The position is 100% on site in Indian Head, MD.

Responsibilities

- Provide highly technical expertise and guidance in solving complex engineering problems

- Perform in all phases of hardware design, development, integration/implementation, and analysis

- Plan and conduct engineering feasibility studies for the design improvement modifications and implementation of advanced technologies

- Develop standards and guidelines for tasks being performed

- Interface with government personnel

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Strong self-starter with the ability to lead technical efforts and work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Experience with DOD acquisition process, environmental testing, and systems integration testing.
  • Ability to define test objectives, develop test plans and procedures, analyze and interpret test data, and support failure investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Strong technical writing skills, with experience authoring test plans, procedures, and detailed technical reports.
  • Experience supporting test events at government ranges or contractor facilities.
  • Hands-on experience with developmental and qualification testing, including shock, vibration, thermal, and other MIL-STD test environments.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (e.g., Creo, SolidWorks)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to independently drive tasks and lead support staff or cross-functional teams to successful completion.
  • In the office up to 5 days per week as required with option for situational telework.

Physical Demand:

    • Frequent walking, standing, and moving between workstations in the machine shop environment.
    • Ability to lift and move materials or parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • Regular exposure to noise, dust, and vibrations typical of a machine shop.
    • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
    • Occasional bending, kneeling, and reaching to access materials or equipment.

 

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
