Overview

TRANSPORTATION ANALYST (NHTSA):

 

Bowhead is seeking a Transportation Analyst to support the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in Washington, DC. This position is intended to replace a departing team member and requires a candidate with strong knowledge in child passenger safety, particularly car seat evaluation, and a proven ability to lead and coordinate complex technical efforts.

 

The ideal candidate will be a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST), skilled in vehicle safety systems and New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) testing protocols. Strong organizational skills, proactive initiative, and the ability to take ownership of tasks and lead coordination among stakeholders are essential.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical resource on car seat safety, occupant protection systems, and NCAP-related test procedures.
  • Lead or assist with the development of research plans, data reviews, and technical presentations related to NCAP and child safety in vehicles.
  • Coordinate and support engineering evaluations and vehicle testing initiatives.
  • Take ownership of projects, providing leadership and direction as needed across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to prepare documentation, analysis, and presentations.
  • Maintain excellent attention to detail while managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Act as a key liaison for internal and external coordination efforts.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Engineering, Transportation Safety, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5+) years of relevant professional experience.
  • Certification: Must be a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) or able to obtain certification prior to start.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
    • Strong presentation development and data communication abilities.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent organizational and coordination skills.
    • Proactive ownership mindset and ability to lead efforts independently.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and clear, effective communication.
    • Team-oriented, with the ability to manage competing priorities.

 

Physical Demands:
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
• Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
• Must be able to twist, bend, and squat periodically

 

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Public Trust level. A minimum of three (3) years US residency, or US Citizenship, is required for a Public Trust clearance at this location.
