Qayaq Construction seeks an Operator to safely operate various types of heavy equipment, including road graders, rock trucks, bulldozers, scrapers, shovels, excavators, tractors, loaders, and forklifts. The Operator will support construction and earthmoving activities while maintaining safety, efficiency, and equipment care on the job site.

 

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include:

  • Operate heavy equipment as directed by the site superintendent and/or foreman.

  • Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance needs.

  • Ensure equipment is operated safely and efficiently in accordance with site plans and safety protocols.

  • Follow project instructions, site procedures, and supervisor directives.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Member of Local Union 302.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

  • Minimum of 1+ years of experience operating heavy equipment in highway construction.

  • Proficient in operating a variety of equipment, including but not limited to:

    • Road graders

    • Rock trucks

    • Bulldozers

    • Scrapers

    • Shovels

    • Excavators

    • Tractors

    • Loaders

    • Forklifts

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform duties in compliance with OSHA regulations.

  • Reliable and punctual work history.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred but not required.

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Must have full range of motion for body and limbs

  • Ability to handle and manipulate objects and materials

  • Coordinate movement of eyes, hands, feet, and fingers to complete tasks

  • Adequate visual and hearing abilities required for safe equipment operation

  • Ability to work at heights above 12 feet using ladders, scaffolding, or man lifts

  • Engage in extensive physical activity and strenuous labor

  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull objects over 50 pounds

  • Ability to reach in all directions

  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, vibration, and outdoor weather conditions

  • Subject to body jarring from uneven surfaces and jerking equipment movements while operating machinery

  • Must be able to safely sit in the operator’s seat and reach all controls (pedals, switches, levers, buttons)

  • Must maintain a clear field of vision of all instruments, gauges, warning lights, windows, and/or mirrors when operating equipment

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed outdoors in all types of weather, including extreme cold, heat, wind, and rain.

  • May work at varying elevations and on uneven or slippery surfaces.

  • Job site includes light to heavy equipment, construction materials, tools, and communication devices.

  • Regular activity around people standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking.

  • Occasional exposure to bells, alarms, and other audible warnings.

  • Subject to environmental conditions such as noise, open excavations, moving equipment, temporary structures, and general construction hazards.

  • Must maintain situational awareness and adhere to all site safety protocols.
