SENIOR QUALITY ASSURANCE ENGINEER (AT):

 

Bowhead seeks a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer to support Bowhead's Advanced Technology division located in Indian Head, MD.

The Senior Quality Assurance Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of quality and reliability.  This position requires a strong background in quality assurance processes, meticulous attention to detail, and a deep understanding of munitions development and production. The Senior Quality Assurance Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to implement and maintain quality assurance protocols, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive quality assurance processes and procedures for munitions development.
  • Conduct thorough inspections and testing of munitions products to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and procurement teams to identify and resolve quality issues, ensuring continuous improvement in product quality.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action processes for quality-related issues, documenting findings and implementing preventive measures.
  • Review and approve quality control plans, inspection reports, and test results, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Oversee supplier quality management, including audits, assessments, and performance evaluations, to ensure the quality of incoming materials and components.
  • Maintain detailed records of quality assurance activities, including inspection results, non-conformance reports, and corrective actions.
  • Train and mentor junior quality assurance staff, providing guidance and support to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes related to munitions development and quality assurance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and procedures in all quality assurance activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, quality assurance, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of twenty (20+) years of experience in a munitions manufacturing environment. quality assurance, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead role, preferably in a munitions development or defense-related industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of quality assurance methodologies, tools, and best practices, including ISO 9001, Six Sigma, and Lean Manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of munitions development processes, materials, and testing procedures.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and suppliers.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in documentation and reporting.

Physical Demand:

    • Frequent walking, standing, and moving between workstations in the machine shop environment.
    • Ability to lift and move materials or parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • Regular exposure to noise, dust, and vibrations typical of a machine shop.
    • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
    • Occasional bending, kneeling, and reaching to access materials or equipment.

 

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
