Overview

UIC Municipal Services is seeking an Expeditor to join our team. This position is responsible for coordinating and expediting the flow of materials to and from suppliers to support project needs. The Expeditor II ensures that materials are delivered on time, in the correct quantities, and in compliance with project specifications. Responsibilities include inspecting goods at pickup and delivery, maintaining accurate records, and collaborating closely with managers and vendors to support timely and efficient project execution. The role also involves frequent use of filing systems and computer programs to track and organize material movement.

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include:

  • Expedite activities or purchase items at various vendors to meet project schedules.
  • Track orders, receive goods, and deliver goods as required.
  • Record and maintain inventory of quantity, material type, parts received and distributed, manually or by using a computer.
  • Confer with supervisors to determine overdue materials and parts and to inform supervisors about the status of the product(s).
  • Pickup and deliver items daily and deliver in timely manner to said projects in coordination with superintendents, project managers, and equipment manager.
  • Maintain company vehicle and ensure timely maintenance.
  • Frequently check-in with suppliers to ensure timely delivery on agreed date.
  • Responsible for managing timely deliveries.
  • Pick up, deliver and transport special high priority materials as requested by managers.
  • Additional job duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Effective judgment & decision-making.

  • Exhibits excellent computer skills; including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and the internet.

  • Exhibits good communication skills in writing, verbally, and orally in English and Inupiaq.

  • Basic mathematical skills required.

  • Critical thinking, active listening and complex problem solving.

  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

  • Must be able to meet schedules and deadlines.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Must be dependable and trustworthy to handle cash and confidential information.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • 2 to 5 years of related experience.

  • Valid Alaska driver’s license with a clean driving record for the past three (3) years. Must comply with all Authorized Driver Policy procedures regarding approved vehicle use.

  • Ability to pass a Non-DOT pre-employment drug screening and comply with all Non-DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program requirements.

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Must be able to lift at least 70-120 pounds.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a combination of indoor and outdoor environments, including warehouses, loading areas, and project sites.

  • Exposure to varying weather conditions such as wind, rain, snow, and extreme cold may occur.

  • May be exposed to noise, dust, and moving equipment common to construction and industrial settings.

  • Requires frequent travel between vendor locations, job sites, and storage facilities.

  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required in certain work areas.

  • May involve early mornings, evenings, or weekend hours to meet project delivery requirements.
