They may oversee an entire project or just part of one. They must be available—often 24 hours a day—to deal with delays, bad weather, or emergencies at the jobsite. They schedule and coordinate all construction processes, including the selection, hiring, and oversight of specialty trade contractors and labor. The superintendent coordinates and supervises the construction process through final construction, making sure that the project gets done on time and within budget. Essential Functions • Assessing building structures to identify their structural components and determine the most efficient methods to perform demolitions.   • Examining job site surroundings to determine safety.   • Removing debris, rubble, and hazardous materials from job sites.   • Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards. • Erect or dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, or other temporary structures   • Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations   • Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed.   • Tend pumps, compressors, or generators to provide power for tools, machinery, or equipment or to heat or move materials.   • Mix, pour, or spread concrete, using portable cement mixers.     • Control traffic passing near, in, or around work zones.   • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, or rakes.   Required Experience: 1 year of general labor experience or equivalent.
